Do You Use a Sonicare To Brush Your Teeth?

Learn how to correctly use a Sonicare:

1.  Put the toothpaste on the bristles and scrub the brush all over your teeth.  This ensures that the toothpaste covers your teeth, if it is turned on first it can be harder to cover all areas of the teeth.

2.  Press the round button so the Sonicare turns on, only when it is in your mouth.  This will make sure nothing splatters.  Be sure to take it easy for the first few uses.  If your Sonicare does not come with a beginners mode be sure to only use it for 1minute for the first 3days.  

3.  Start in the corner of your mouth and move all around your gums and teeth in a circular motion.  Don't forget about the backs of your teeth too! However you do not need to scrub with your Sonicare as it is different than a regular tooth brush and does the scrubbing for you.

4.  Stop when the vibrations turn off.  Most Sonicare toothbrushes run for 2 minutes and some for 2 1/2 minutes.  If it shuts off before you have finished, simply press the button again and one more time to shut it off when completed.

5.  Lastly, place your Sonicare back on the charger, so you will always have a fully charged Sonicare!

Stay Hydrated and Help Your Teeth During this Hot Weather!

The hot weather is still lingering, which means we need to stay hydrated!  Dehydration can easily happen during the stifling summer in Arizona.  Be sure to always keep water with you at all times to avoid this.  As a dental office we prefer tap water because of the fluoride that is present. 

Fluoride can possibly help prevent and even undo the beginning stages of tooth decay.  According to KidsHealth.org, Fluoride can prevent the bacteria in plaque from dissolving tooth enamel, which in the end creates acid.  Damaged teeth caused by acid can potentially be repaired by Fluoride.  In the end, Fluoride keeps your enamel strong and solid!

So before leaving the house be sure to fill up a water bottle with tap water to hydrate and keep your teeth strong and healthy!

Julie Hymovitch of An Elegant Smile Completes Her 2nd Annual Walk to Raise Funds in the Fight Against Breast Cancer

Local Resident and Chief Operating Officer Walked 60-Miles in Three Days for the Cause

Phoenix, AZ – Sixty miles, three days, thousands of steps, and months of preparation to make a personal difference in finding the cure. An Elegant Smile Comprehensive Family and Specialty Dentistry's Chief Operating Officer—Julie Hymovitch, proudly joined thousands of breast cancer supporters in preparing for the 2010 Susan G. Komen Phoenix 3-Day for the Cure^®, presented by Energizer. After months of training and fundraising, participants walked 60 miles during three days to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and community-based breast health and education programs.  The 2010 Phoenix 3-Day for the Cure^® raised more than $4.4 million dollars.

This was my second year in a row walking 60 miles for Komen for the Cure, said Julie Hymovitch.  “I walked last year with one of my best friends, Brenda Fox.  She had lost her mother to breast cancer when she was 14 years old.  This year, we added our friend, Susan Finks, to our group and formed a team, "Chai Hopes."  I walk in memory of my mother-in-law, Mabel Hymovitch, who lost her battle to breast cancer in 2004 and in memory of my friend, Lynne Bitler, a woman in her 40's, who left behind 4 children as she lost her battle in 2001.  I also walk to honor three courageous women:  my Aunt Nancy Gitell who battled breast cancer and is winning the fight; my dear friend Donna Sanders who is winning her battle, and my cousin, Dawn Schlossberg who is 42 and currently engaged in the battle.

When I walked in 2009, I had just lost my father, Robert Katz, to metastatic renal cell carcinoma on September 14, 2009. Although the Komen walk is for breast cancer, I realized as I was walking that it is really about walking for cancer in general and helping to find a cure for such a devastating disease that robs us of our loved ones too soon."

Each walker supported by coaches and online assistant was, aided in all aspects of training and fundraising. Additionally, clinics, meetings, training walks, teams and buddy walkers provided ongoing encouragement.

The Susan G. Komen Phoenix 3-Day for the Cure started Friday morning, November 12th at Freestone Park in Gilbert, AZ and ended with the Closing Ceremony on Sunday afternoon, November 14th at Arizona State Fairgrounds in Phoenix, AZ. Fifteen hundred walkers covered about 20 miles a day, traveling at their own pace. 312 volunteer crew members supported the walkers through the three-day journey providing meals, refreshments and snack stops, gear transport, hot showers, portable restrooms, safety on the streets and 24-hour medical services. The Komen 3-Day for the Cure is the greatest distance you can go in the fight against breast cancer.

Dental Offices Host Eight-Week Food Drive

An Elegant Smile Joins St. Vincent de Paul’s Million Can Crusade

Phoenix — In Arizona, 1 in 5 households do not have enough money to buy food, ranking Arizona the 17th highest in the country. To help those in need, An Elegant Smile Comprehensive Family and Specialty Dentistry will be collecting canned goods in their nine locations throughout Arizona, November through the end of December.

Throughout the eight weeks, An Elegant Smile Comprehensive Family and Specialty Dentistry will be drawing awareness to the growing number of Arizona residents in need. “We are dedicated to helping our community and giving back to those in need,” said Julie Hymovitch. “The economic crisis has challenged everyone to re-evaluate their lives and decide what is truly important to them. While cutting back on things like eating out or buying a new pair of shoes seems like an obvious answer to the average person, it leaves little room for the homeless and working poor in our country and here in Arizona.”
